Tues 12th, 19th and 26th June - Dome 6.30-8pm.

There will also be one more summer match v Effra. June or early July on astro at Dulwich.

July/Aug - Southside FC will take a break until football resumes late Aug/early Sept.

Southside FC 2, Arriva FC 9 (at least!)

Losing always hurts and losing by a cricket score hurts double.
That said , there were positives to take out of the game.
2 of Arriva's best players were  Southside players, loaned to them for the night.
Congratulations to Courtney and Michael for excellent perfermances. If you play that well FOR us next time, all will be forgiven.
Amazingly, we actually finished the game much more strongly than Arriva. Danny White scored two excellent goals in the last 5 minutes.
Arriva converted their first chance of the game on 20 minutes to break the deadlock. Before then Southside had carved out at least four good goalscoring opportunities.
For 65 mins in the middle of the match too many Southside players let the pressure get to them.
When we go behind we have to dig deep and pull together. Next time we'll do that.
Despite the loss , there was plenty to celebrate. We had a squad of 20! Great to see so many people turn out. In fact the only 2 people who dropped out were our 2 keepers. Unfortunate that!
3  people made their debuts. It was great to welcome Herbert, Darren and Gianluca to the team.
Man of the match was Montel. The youngest player on the pitch showed more composure and maturity than anyone else with another excellent 90minutes at left back.
Effra have just challenged us to a match on the Stadium pitch next Thurs, so we'll have a good chance to put this result behind us.
I've just taken delivery of some new yellow kit too we could give it a first outing in the Effra match.

Tuesday 17 April 2012

Southside FC 4, Big Paul's Arriva XI 3.

Really good game last night. A cagey first half ended 0-0 but the game burst into life with goals galore throughout the second period.
Southside went 1-0 up from a disputed penalty after Reece was brought down in the area.
Goal's from Scott, Reece(2) and Malek put Southside into a comanding 4-1 lead. Arriva surged back and 2 more goals for them kept the result in doubt until the final whistle.
Plenty of good play from both teams in a very open game made for an enjoyable occasion.
A return match is planned, probably for Mon May 14th.

Cup Quarter Final

I'm really looking forward to the QF on Sunday.
It's going to be a really tough game but i have faith in southside and i know that we will give a good account of ourselves.
Several regulars aren't available on Sundays. The team has been changed substantially but not weakend.
It's great to welcome back Bilal's  boys, Martin and Tariq. Also Paul A and Neill R will slot in.
Scott has made a miraculous revovery from his ankle injury and is ready to start on Sunday.
Everything to play for. See you on Sunday. I'll be there from 11.15.

Tonight's match  has been cancelled. Palace decided that the pitch was not playable today.
We'll try to re-arrange the fixture ASAP.
Dome is on next Tues 20th.

Friday 13 January 2012

Southside 3, Effra Academicals 3.

This was much better.
Apart from a 15minute wobble in the second half, Southside played  with composure and discipline.
David made an assured debut in goal, covering for Geoff's absence.
Montel was really unlucky not to open his account for the Mighty Reds.
But for the heroics of Effra's keeper, we could have been 4 or 5 goals up at half time. Instead , the game was still goalless  as we kicked off for the second period.
Scott broke the deadlock and it looked like we had a firm grip on the game, but Effra clawed a goal back and for a while things sarted to unravel.Soon we were 1-3 down.
I was really pleased to see that we pulled things back from the brink.
We regained our shape and our composure. Scott scored two more excellent goals.
In a frenetic last 10 minutes Southside looked the more likely to score. Three all was a fair result. It wasn't a perfect performance from us - there are a few things to put right, but there are plenty of positives to take away from this enjoyable game. Well done lads.

Team: David, Little James, Phil, Owen, Mark B, Reece, Montel, Dane, Nik, Big Paul, Bobby,Malek, Sam D, Scott, Danny.
